Emily Tourgeman is a second year DMA trumpet student and Teaching Fellow at the University of North Texas. She began playing trumpet at age 9 in her hometown of Staten Island New York, and continued playing trumpet throughout high school. She pursued her undergraduate dual degrees in Music Education and Trumpet Performance at the University of Hartford’s Hartt School where she studied with Kevin Cobb and Phil Snedecor. Emily continued with her graduate studies at The New School’s Mannes College where she received her master’s degree in Orchestral Trumpet Performance studying under the tutelage of Mark Gould. Throughout her college studies, Emily has pursued commercial, orchestral, chamber and solo trumpet playing, and has become an avid arranger as well. Her arrangement of Saint Saens’ Danse Macabre won the top prize at the National Trumpet Competition Yamaha Large Ensemble Division in 2023. Emily has also participated in festivals such as the Atlantic Brass Quintet seminar, and Pierre Monteux orchestral summer festival. Emily has performed with several professional ensembles such as the Richardson Symphony, Richmond County Orchestra, Staten Island Philharmonic, Lone Star Wind Orchestra, One O’ Clock Lab Band, and has recorded for the UNT Wind Symphony. She plans to continue the remainder of her degree program at UT Austin with her teacher Caleb Hudson while performing around the Austin area and maintaining a healthy trumpet studio at UT. Aside from playing trumpet, Emily also enjoys cooking and singing Karaoke with her friends (and dogs).
