
Paul Hübner
Paul is one of the most creative brass players of his generation as an interpreter, composer, performer and improviser. He studied trumpet with Malte Burba and Mike Svoboda in Mainz and Basel and as a fellow of the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt.
Concerts have taken him to the main festivals for contemporary music, such as Donaueschinger Musiktage and Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik, as a soloist and in a wide variety of chamber music and ensemble formations.
He has appeared as a soloist with the WDR Symphony Orchestra, and plays regularly in groups as ensemble contrechamps, Ensemble Modern, zinc&copper, Ictus Ensemble and l'art pour l'art, as well as in his own formations MAM.manufaktur für aktuelle musik and hear now berlin.
His work includes intensive collaboration with composers of his generation to realize new works for a wide range of (brass) instruments and the exploration of new sounds - acoustic, thematic and social - in his own compositions and improvisations.
Paul is a prize winner of various national and international competitions, including the German Music Competition and the ensemblia composition prize. He was awarded a residency scholarship at the Cité des Arts in Paris in 2018 and has been a fellow of Junge Akademie | Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz since 2020.
